Saab 9-7X performance

In its advertising for the 9-7X, it's interesting how Saab emphasizes its "Scandinavian Design" elements. Perhaps they're hoping people will either forget or won't catch on to its GM origins. The exterior is nicely done - notice how the hood and front fenders slope downwards. This isn't hasty badge engineering. According to a recent Car and Driver piece, enough attention was given to the 9-7X's performance, particularly in the suspension, to where it feels more like a Saab than a tarted-up TrailBlazer. Not being a hardcore Saab fan, I have no heartfelt opinions about GM's ownership. I guess if Porsche and BMW can do SUVs, it shouldn't be a big deal if Saab follows suit. Are the Swedes losing their brand's identity and character with Detroit in control? Saab was in the position, at least in the U.S., of either increasing sales with new models that dilute their Saab flavor. Or maintaining their independence, with declining sales dragging them into oblivion.
